You can volunteer in many ways to help the dogs. Here are just a few suggestions:
Rescue Centre:
With the amount of dogs we have in residence help is always needed at the centre:
- General Cleaning.
- Dog Washing / Grooming.
- Playing and interacting with the dogs.
- Dog walking.
- Building / Making improvements.
As you can see the help we need is diverse and perhaps you have the skills needed for some of these necessary jobs.
The rescue centre IS our centre and it is a mammoth job to keep it clean and the dogs happy but somehow we do it as best we can! However, many hands make light work and especially on the improvement / building we need more help, people with these skills are very welcomed !
Shops:
All 3 of our shops are open 6 days a week and we always need voluntary help:
- Serving customers.
- Sorting through donations.
It is a hard job working in the shops but very rewarding because at the end of each day you see you have made a difference, the money which pays for the food for the dogs. You get to meet a wide variety of the public and not only do you help the dogs but in the shops it gives you a chance to talk about what we do and sometimes help to get a dog a new home. This is a very rewarding volunteer position. Just 1 day a week helps us very much.
Donations of Items:
Collecting items that are donated, these may be bags of clothes and bric a brac for the shops, larger items for auction or building materials for the refuge. If you have some spare time and a vehicle this is a great volunteer job to fit your time.
Charity Boxes:
Again some spare time and a vehicle and you can help to collect the coins which the generous public put into our charity boxes located in various businesses in the South. Also, help is needed to count the coins and put them into bank plastics then distribute the receipts.
Vets Runs:
We are always in need of people who can help to take the dogs to the vets and / or collect them. Sometimes the dogs are left for the day so need picking back up and returning to the rescue centre. This is a very time consuming situation for the full time rescue workers which could be better spent on other jobs, so volunteers to do these runs would be great ! Several times a year we have to take many dogs at one time to vets in the North or elsewhere for castration / neutering. Again we can always do with help for these times.
